Have you ever been to any goodwill stores or vintage thift boutiques around your community lately? Research some stores close to you and take a look on what they have to offer. You would be amazed to see some of the clothes you find and maybe take something home that isnt “so hip” and be creative to make it modern day fashionable.

The outfit which was picked today was a basic white tunic, some royal blue belted shorts, little accessories and cute brown strapped flats. Since the tunic is a little longer, I would tuck it into the shorts and tie the blue belt that comes along with it into a bow as the picture has it. The reason for tucking in the tunic is to show off the shorts. Since the tunic comes up a little on the neck I personally would not wear a necklace, that is why I chose the rings. The rings are a collaborated set and what fun way to split some of them up and wear them on both hands! The orange clutch adds the final details of the the “UF GATOR” colors. Not only is it super cheap, it is super fashionable also!

Their secret? Thrift stores! Yes, you heard me right. These girls are going to places like Goodwill and buying old stiff “mom jeans” for cheap and cutting them up for that distressed look that fits them perfectly. I was skeptical at first, but then I looked up some tutorials on YouTube and it looked so easy. I finally gave in and gave it a try and now I can say that my very favorite pairs of jeans only cost me $3! Because I cut them myself, they are the perfect length and the holes are right where I want them to be–not too big and not too many.

You don’t only have to settle for holey shorts this summer either. You can bedazzle them any way you want. The whole rocker chic style is in this summer, so try to jazz them up with some studs or bleaching them to make them look vintage and more distressed. Not only do the shorts looks great, you get a sense of satisfaction knowing you MADE your jean shorts yourself and didn’t have to spend a fortune to get shorts like these. Rock your new-old shorts with a vintage tank or dress it up with a cute button down and you’re ready to take on summer. Come fall they will look great with your trendy Miss Fanatic tank at tailgates! Here are Some great Football food Ideas!

Everyone knows about the typical chips and salsa, but why not bring a little originality to your next social when football season arrives. Sloppy joes  sliders are always a favorite. The mini sloppy joes are easy to make and gives your guest the “grab and go” option so they wont miss any exciting plays or touchdowns.

Another cool idea is the Mini CornDog Muffins. Who doesn’t like corndogs? What better way  to “wow” your guest by adding this item on the food list. It is basically a corn dog baked in a muffin in which you can dip it in any sauces (ketchup, mustard, bbq) and pop it in your mouth ! Here is one  GameDay Food Recipe

What about some football desserts?

Lets have fun alittle and get into the theme! One cool dessert that has be seen often are the strawberrys dipped in chocolate then designed with icing like a football. Everyone loves strawberrys so not only is it a easy idea, it is a tasty fruit that can calm down your taste buds from those awesome muffins. The last idea is the football designed cupcakes.  Cupcakes are easy to make but when you add a little touch to it your guest will appreciate the effort. Dont stop there though, throw some food coloring to make them green or brown to honor the football field !

For all you Daddy’s girls out there, its time to switch the spotlight this weekend. Yes, it is almost Mother’s Day. It is not too late to get your mom a present that she will love! Here are some great ideas from Miss Fanatic that will let Mom know you really appreciate everything she has done for you over the years.

If you don’t live near your mother (or stepmother) and unfortunately can’t make it to visit her this Mother’s Day don’t just settle for sending her a bouquet of flowers, let her know you are thinking about her with a delivery from Edible Arrangements. If you haven’t heard of it, it is actually a great buy! They deliver the arrangement on the day and time you want it to be delivered, completely fresh. Edible Arrangements was even deemed the “fruit experts” since 1999 because they have a wide variety of only the freshest fruits. Many arrangements have fruit dipped in chocolate (yum!), but you can customize your order for what you think your mom would prefer this season.

Last year I got my mom a Pandora bracelet for Mother’s Day and she LOVED it! Now I have an idea for all the holidays after that: charms. Pandora was gracious enough to have a Mother’s Day sale up until the 13th, so don’t worry about it being a little pricey–it is well worth it. You have the option to buy a bracelet full of themed charms, or you could start with a bracelet (or necklace) and a charm or two to build on for future holidays. Pandora doesn’t stop at bracelet and necklaces. Check out their site for more ideas for Mother’s Day.

Now we have the classic Bath and Body Works/Body Shop finds. Some say it is overdone, but a mother’s work is NEVER done, so some relaxation products could be just what she needs this Mother’s Day. Both stores have everything from lotions to spa therapies to candles to bath salts, which are all essentials for a relaxing afternoon for mom.

The best gift a mom can get, however, is you. Spend time with your mom this Mother’s Day and take her to the beach, or paint her toes while she drinks a glass of wine. Do not worry about deadlines or classes, just hang out and talk with her. Treat her to dinner for a change. Taking your time and spending it with her will mean so much more to her than you will ever know until you have a child of your own. It’s her day because of YOU, so spend it with her and enjoy Mother’s Day this weekend.

I’m freaking out, What should I Wear?

Mondays does not always have to be a “throw on a t-shirt day” You have errands to run, work or internships to get to, and fun in the sun with your friend’s right? Instead of throwing on that “t-shirt” add a little accessories and some cute wedges to dress up your outfit a little. Being fashionable doesn’t mean you have to put on a fancy dress, or stilettos. By putting on that plain t-shirt, some skinny light washed jean, and colorful statement necklace that not only dresses up that plain tee, but also gives you that fashionable casual summer look.  Sometimes planning outfits for work is easier in the fall/winter time because you can go for that “modern day suit feel”. But others have a bit of a challenge figuring out what to wear in the summer.  If your workplace is more professional you have no choice but to wear that suit skirt/dress two piece, but if you have a open dress code, more business casual, why not have fun with it! Instead of wearing that suit skirt with the matching jacket, add a summer- fun colored cardigan, and a v-neck tank with some pattern to stand out from the rest of your fellow colleagues. Another look you can play along with is by using your suiting jacket, a cute bright colored blouse and some dark denim skinnys for a “denim day wear.” Ladies do not forget your cute heels or wedges to top the outfit off though!

Do not think for a second that coming out of your house in your pajamas is Miss Fanatic approved! Its summer time and you don’t want something that is tight, the sun is blazing, so find a cute maxi dress with some patterns and top it off with a fedora to add some “fashion” to it.

But what about my hair?

What has been trending now is the fish tail braids, the twisted braids, and the high slicked back bun (which I adore).  The braid looks takes a couple minutes to do, it is very fun and flirty and it can complete an outfit. I am a firm believer that hair can make or break a person’s outfit. Well you’re wrong! Kim Kardashian is infamous for the slicked back ponytail/ bun hairstyle. Not only does it give more attention to your face, the out lookers are more focused on you and your outfit not just your hair.

First, let’s talk food.

Want to plan a get-together with some friends but don’t have any idea for food? Miss Fanatic has got you covered! Besides, any excuse to eat Mexican food is fine by me. A Mexican potluck is a fun way for you and your friends to get creative and for you to save money! But it always seems customary that the host provides the dip, doesn’t it? Don’t settle for traditional old chips and salsa this Cinco de Mayo. Try these fun individual dip cups, complete with re-fried beans, guac, sour cream, salsa, shredded cheese, peppers and olives and some whole grain chips (remember those “good carbs” I was telling you about?). I would go ahead and make a few extra just to be on the safe side, since they are so delicious and convenient. Guacamole is another great dip for Cinco de Mayo, mainly because avocados are stocked with healthy fat (yes, there is such a thing!), not to mention it’s delicious. Can you tell Mexican food is another one of my vices? Check out this link for a copy-cat Chipotle guac recipe that is to DIE for! Also, feel free to add diced tomatoes for that extra flavor.

Don’t forget the margaritas!

Margaritas are great for any party, but a Cinco de Mayo party seems incomplete without them. Start with buying a quality tequila, like Jose Cuervo. Keep in mind you do not have to buy “top shelf” tequila to make an excellent margarita, or a blender for that matter. It is all about the recipe, after all. Jose Cuervo has provided us with the “perfect margarita” recipe for you to try this holiday. If you want to try something with a little more of a twist, there are tons of margarita recipes as well as tutorials at allrecipes.com that are sure to be a hit!

Dress for the occasion.

Dressing to theme is always a fun way to get in the spirit of Cinco de Mayo. Bright colors are definitely a must! Aztec print clothing is ideal and is a fun way to stand out even when you are not celebrating a Mexican holiday. Dress for the weather, if you’d like (it is supposed to be a hot summer, after all), and try a cute romper like this one from Charlotte Russe. Spice it up with a fun flower in your hair, and you are ready to party!

I don’t know about you, but now that finals are over, I am realizing how much more time I have been spending studying over working out, and it is SHOWING! No bueno. So, in order to show off my Miss Fanatic bikini I want to get back into tip top shape. Not only does exercising play a huge role in getting that spring break bod back, but eating healthy will help you look great and feel great too! I know what you are thinking… “I am [a college student] on a budget, I can’t afford the foods necessary to be healthy.” Believe me, I thought that too! I would resort to the unhealthiest snacks, trying to justify it because of their low prices, but in the end I realized it was hurting me more than helping me and my wallet. There IS a solution-BOGO (buy-one-get-one FREE)!
Your local grocery stores, such as Publix, offers so many BOGO deals; you are bound to find some that are right for you. All you have to do is check the Publix website, or if you didn’t get a chance to make it home to check, they have catalogs in the front of the store with each deal listed inside. Next time you go grocery shopping, skim the catalogs to see what they have to offer this week and plan your grocery list from that. But remember, we are using these deals to get HEALTHY! Not for those “buy one family size pack of Doritos, get one free” deals, but for healthier snack substitutes like Sabre Hummus and Pita chips, pretzels, or carrots and ranch dip.
Also, I know my sweet tooth can get the best of me sometimes, with all those Chips Ahoy deals taunting me, it is hard to make the right choices when it comes down to grocery shopping. This is when I look hard for the fruit BOGOs. Yes, they DO have those and not only is fruit a healthy alternative for those sweet cravings I get on a regular basis, there are so many kinds to choose from. Fruit has all of the healthy sugars that are easier for your body to break down than the artificial stuff in candy, as well as vitamins that boost your immune system. Not to mention, it is very tasty!

BOGO deals are also great for planning your meals for the week. A popular deal that seems to always catch my eye is the BOGO pasta boxes. Yes, that is another one of my vices. Can you tell I like to eat? “How do you make pasta healthy?” you might ask. Whole grain and whole wheat pasta is actually a source of good carbs, well, about as good as carbs can get anyway. Include that with some BOGO marinara sauce and BOGO salad kits and you have a quick cheap and easy-to-make dinner for the next couple nights!
The first step to a change in lifestyle is always the hardest. But once you make that first healthy BOGO shop, it is easier to make the next, and then another and so on, resulting in development of healthy habits that can last you all summer. Keeping up with your healthy substitutes can actually be easy, so why not give it a try? It is never too late to develop a healthy habit. After all, we don’t want to retire those hot college bikinis until fall. This summer is going to be a hot one and I know you want to spend it on the beach, so start now and start seeing results!

Brainstorm where you want to be this summer.

Will you be home; are you traveling; are you going to study abroad; going to a different state? What are your ultimate goals, and what are your short-term goals? Write it all down in a web of inspiration, clip out articles, pictures, quotes, and pin them on your wall. You can call it your wall of the future.

Something like this would be really cool!

Make a timeline of your upcoming deadlines and update your to-do list to keep you organized.

The more organized you are, the less stress you will feel when the time crunch begins. Most internships have a deadline, in order to be considered, so do your research and keep tabs of everything that interests you.

Pick out 5 dream internships and ten back-up internships that you want to do.  

Re-arrange your resume for each internship that you are interested in, make a list of all the places you are applying to and follow up with each employer for interviews. (It’s still not too late to score an awesome summer internship! Check out this article from HerCampus to help inspire you to preserver.)

Apply to some part time jobs wherever you want to go, to help you earn a little extra income.

I really recommend craigslist to search for jobs, just be careful for the spam!

Maintain a steady workout schedule: “Endorphins make you happy, happy people just don’t [get depressed about graduation].” As Elle Woods would say. I’m sure you’ve been working  on that rocking summer body, don’t give up!

Don’t stress too much if you haven’t figured out exactly what you want to do in life. YOU HAVE TIME. 

Lastly, exude happiness in all that you do, you may brighten another person’s day, and start a ripple effect of happiness. How wonderful would that be?Here’s something I found on Pinterest, thanks to Domestic Blogger. This should ease your spirits.
